If you’re just joining us, welcome. Before the story continues, here’s the tale of how everything began.
Long before the current age of peace, the world stood on the brink of destruction. Strange omens began appearing across the realm—ancient cults resurfaced, powerful relics were uncovered, and long-forgotten creatures began to awaken. Among these threats were a resurrected Mummy Lord, a dragon guarding forbidden knowledge, and the infamous Book of Vile Darkness, a relic capable of corrupting entire kingdoms.
At the center of these events was the great city of Vasserdell. There, a small group of city guards found themselves pulled into dangers far beyond their duties. What began as simple patrols and small missions quickly escalated into battles against powerful monsters and ancient evils. Along the way, the group caught the attention of a mysterious figure named Brickley, whose guidance seemed to push them toward increasingly dangerous threats.
As the guards’ legend grew, they destroyed the Book of Vile Darkness, defeated the dragon protecting its secrets, and brought down the ancient Mummy Lord. Yet these victories were only the beginning of a much larger conflict. Behind the growing chaos stood Maolith, an ancient demon lord whose followers had spent centuries preparing for his return.
As Maolith’s influence spread, the world descended into chaos. Cities fell into turmoil, creatures from the abyss began appearing across the land, and the first battles of a devastating war began to unfold. In an unexpected turn, one of Maolith’s own servants—Lilith—chose to aid the heroes. Through her uneasy alliance with the group, particularly the warrior Gideon, she walked a dangerous line between demon and ally.
During their travels, the heroes also journeyed to the island of Creolys, homeland of the warrior Bjorn Dresdin. There they discovered that Bjorn’s father had been possessed by a demon threatening to seize control of the island. With the help of the mysterious Gravewalker Grimoire—a legendary soul collector said to have died long ago—they destroyed the demon and freed the island. In the aftermath, Bjorn’s companions Rydell and Tancoren rose to leadership there.
But by this point, the greater conflict had begun. Maolith’s generals unleashed armies of demons across the world, igniting what would become known as the First War Against Maolith. Cities burned and kingdoms fell as the heroes gathered allies and fought to stop the spreading darkness.
In the war’s final chapter, the group attempted the impossible: they entered Maolith’s own domain to confront the demon lord directly. In a battle that would echo through history, the heroes faced a being whose power rivaled the gods themselves—and against all odds, they prevailed. Maolith was defeated, and the abyssal forces threatening the world were driven back.
The guards of Vasserdell returned from the war forever changed. Once ordinary soldiers, they had become legends—the heroes who stood when the world was on the edge of ruin.
History would remember them as The Light of Vasserdell.
